Kaci Taylor’s motto is “Wear Who You Are”, and encourages you to be a kind, awesome, caring individual! Entertainment was provided by Roc Nation’s Bridget Kelly performing her single, Special Delivery, which she dedicated to Kaci Taylor herself. DJ Quianataught little girls basic dj skills, while others enjoyed face painting, caricatures, and balloon art. A few notable brands that caught our attention included; Lucid Cosmetics, Miche, Jams by Kim (Wine Jelly), Little Miss Tutuz, and Kane & Couture. We also spoke with Sadeqa Johnsonabout her award-winning book Love in a Carry-On Bag. It was a beautiful event for moms and daughters, or any girl who just wanted to do a little shopping!

Art Battles U featured top painters from New York’s premiere art schools. Held in Manhattan’s Webser Hall, Art Battles filled the venue with students, atrists, and DJs. DJ Kalkutta provided backdrop music as the artists battled it out painting their pieces in the center of the floor, while not being able to view each others work. Art Battles U is certainly the most amped up art battle I’ve ever attended. Guest DJs from participating schools had an opportunity to touch down and spin for the crowd. At that point the stage was as packed as the floor! Inspired by relationships, music and film, each artist displayed a different style or technique in their work.
Over 50 pieces of art by Jean-Michel Basquiat are being featured at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. The exhibit runs through Saturday, April 6th. Wall sized pieces, sets like a three panel Dizzy Gillespie, and portraits including Cassius Clay cover the entire gallery.
Basquiat’s famous crown image is seen throughout on several pieces of art. A wall sized Batman themed painting includes the quote, “Cowards will give to get rid of you.” It’s easy to get a sense of Basquiat’s love for humanity as you view the collection. His connection to the every man is evident. In several of Basquiat’s work you can find warnings of man’s vices within the art. A style all his own, Basquiat’s work includes several layers, distorted figures, and messages throughout.
